I am

I am
Hot green tea and chocolate chip cookies, macaroni and cheese.
Faded jeans and warm hoodies, a bracelet that has deep meaning.
Silly earrings and mix match socks with colorful t-shirts.
A white monkey given from a grandparent when injured, during fifth grade.
Fried rice and funny movies, sitting on the couch with dad and making jokes.
Tattered books and new covers, faded blankets and large stuff animals, while getting lost in a different world.
Small and large photos in a frame, memories of smiles and laughter all on the wall.
The smell of caramel apple and vanilla, playing with the hyper puppy and teasing my brother.
Old medals all hanging on the wall, a memory of a past sport.
Staying up all night talking to friends then sleeping till the afternoon on weekends, chocolate chip pancakes for lunch.
Sitting on the porch watching the rain fall on a cool day, listening to music.
Spending hours typing story ideas on my computer, adding to my many unfinished works.
Speaking Italian just to confuse my dad, practicing the correct way to pronounce the words.
A large water bed, covered in quilts and blankets, faded pillow cases and tattered baby blankets, keeping the memory of a forgotten moment.
An old cabbage patch doll sitting on a shelf, red hair faded and clothes no longer holding their color, never once leaving my side when I was a kid.
An old photograph of and older brother, the edges worn from many times of looking at it, the last photo having been taken before he passed on.
Gold and silver cross necklace, a diamond in the center of a heart and a new silver ring, gifts from a dad who cares.

  1. My Cabbage Patch was a red head, too! Meggy Eve. I wanted her for so long--way back during the craze when they first came out in the mid-80s. I can actually relate to a lot of what you've said. I'm sorry you've had such loss in your life. What's inspiring is how vibrant and creative and joyful you have remained. I'm glad to know you and I can't wait to see what else you come up (using your on-the-spot rhyme schemes or otherwise!). Thanks for creating a blog for me!
